Patrick McCawley is a licensed clinician at Comprehensive MedPsych Systems in Sarasota, Florida, a nationally recognized group of experienced, compassionate, board certified physicians, neuropsychologists, and mental health professionals. Prior to his current position, McCawley worked for 16 years at the Florida Civil Commitment Center (FCCC), completing specialized clinical evaluations with sexually violent predators.

He was the Clinical Director at a secure treatment facility in a forensic program for juvenile offenders and sexual offenders. He served as a neuropsychology clinician and cognitive rehabilitation specialist at a medical practice in neurosurgery, neurology, and neuropsychology.

McCawley served as a psychological specialist and hostile tactics negotiator on a special operations response team (SORT Team) with the Department of Corrections, performing forensic psychological assessments with violent offenders coupled with assisting law enforcement agencies, such as the Federal Bureau of Prisons and US Immigration and Customs Enforcement Department (ICE) in the application of behavioral analysis methodologies for assessing crime scenes. McCawley has conducted comprehensive clinical evaluations and psychological assessments with high profile violent offenders and sexual offenders in the prison system and forensic institutions.

Academic Background

McCawley completed clinical practicum training at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital in neuropsychological evaluation of patients with various types of head injuries, brain trauma, and dementias.

Clinical Research

Patrick McCawley has participated in several research projects, including in clinical neuropsychology and the forensic psychological/behavioral sciences. For the Florida Commitment Center, McCawley’s research was on the “Data Collection for Inter Rater Reliability of Sex Offenders” and the “Data Collection for DSM 5 Proposed Paraphilic Diagnoses with Paraphilic Coercive Disorder and Pedohebephilic Disorder.”

His doctoral dissertation was on “A Neuropsychological Day Treatment Program for Evaluation and Treatment of Mild Traumatic Brain Injury. His Master’s Degree thesis was on Alcohol Dependence The Role of Neurotransmitters in the Detoxification Process of Ethyl Alcohol.”

McCawley’s other research included “Data Collection for Lupron Pharmacotherapeutic Effectiveness in Treatment of Cognitive Symptoms of Dementia” and “Data Collection: Wechsler Memory Scale III (WMS-III).”

He has presented at numerous training seminars and professional conferences in clinical neuropsychology, forensic psychology, clinical assessment of violent offenders/sexual offenders, and diagnostic formulation, among other topics. 

Additionally, McCawley has participated in the development of clinical assessments for the evaluation of head injuries, concussions, and criminal behaviors of violent offenders.

His Hobbies

Originating in the mid 1990s, Patrick McCawley has much enjoyed involvements in high performance offshore powerboat racing, kilo runs, shootouts, and poker runs. He has competed in many racing events.

He also enjoys fitness, weight training, martial arts, and high intensity interval training and has a strong interest in sports nutrition. In addition, McCawley enjoys a day on the golf course, where he can challenge himself and spend time outdoors.
